Biden’s Historic Apology: Boarding school history, ICT

This was one of the most meaningful projects I’ve contributed to at ICT. Covering President Biden’s apology to Native tribes for the U.S. government’s role in the federal Indian boarding school system carried both professional weight and personal significance. As a descendant of boarding school survivors, I didn’t realize how deeply the story would affect me until I was fully immersed in the reporting process. I learned that it’s okay to sit with those emotions, and that acknowledging them is part of healing. I supported the team by writing, editing, and visually producing content for web and social platforms, helping to ensure the coverage was thoughtful, accurate, and respectful. Sharing this historic and long-overdue moment for Indian Country reminded me why I do this work—to inform, uplift, and help bring important stories forward with care and clarity.
